1. About this service
UKGlimpse provides a voicemail and callback line for members of the public who wish to contact UKGlimpse — including sending news tips, story leads, feedback, and general enquiries. When you call our published number, you will hear a short greeting, followed by a tone. You may then leave a voice message of up to two minutes. After you hang up, an authorised representative may listen to your message and, at their discretion, call you back on the number you called from.
By calling the number and leaving a message, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please hang up before the tone and do not leave a message.
2. Who can use this service
- The service is intended for adults (18+) and for minors with the consent of a parent or guardian.
- The service is intended for members of the public contacting UKGlimpse in good faith.
- You must not use the service to harass, threaten, defame, or defraud any person, or to attempt to gain access to systems or data you are not authorised to access.
3. What we record
When you call the number, we automatically capture and store:
- Your voice message, from the tone until you hang up (or reach the two-minute limit).
- Your phone number (caller ID), if your carrier presents it. If you have withheld your number, we will still record your message but will not be able to call you back.
- The date and time of your call.
- Basic call metadata required for operating the telephone system (call duration, technical identifiers).
We do not record you before the tone or after you hang up. We do not use automated speech-to-text transcription without further notice. We do not share your recording with third parties except as described in section 6.
4. How we use the recording
We may use your recording to:
- Respond to your query, tip-off, or request.
- Call you back on the number you called from.
- Improve the service (e.g. tuning our greeting, troubleshooting the system).
- Comply with legal obligations.
If you leave a message that appears to relate to a news tip, story, or programme item, we may use the content of your message in reporting or programming subject to the additional protections in section 5.
5. If your message is intended for editorial or programme use
If you are contacting UKGlimpse with content you would like broadcast, published, or otherwise used editorially:
- We may play back all or part of your recording on-air, online, or in social media, and may quote or summarise its contents, unless you tell us otherwise in the message itself (e.g. “please don’t broadcast this”).
- Where you have not identified yourself, we may refer to you generically (e.g. “a caller from [town]”).
- We will not publish your telephone number.
- We reserve editorial discretion over whether, when, and how to use your message.
If you would like your message used editorially but on an anonymous basis, please say so at the start of your recording.
6. Data protection
Reboot Media Group Limited (as the parent company of UKGlimpse) is the data controller for personal data we capture through this line. Our lawful basis for processing is:
- Legitimate interests — operating a public contact channel for UKGlimpse, following up on enquiries, and (where relevant) journalism in the public interest.
- Consent — where your call is inherently one you have chosen to place and where you have chosen to leave a message.
- Legal obligation — where retention or disclosure is required by law.
Retention. We retain voice recordings and associated metadata for no longer than [90] days unless (a) they are still under active handling, (b) they relate to a news matter or safeguarding issue where longer retention is justified, or (c) we are required by law to retain them for longer.
Sharing. We do not sell your data. We may share it with:
- The technical providers who operate our telephone and hosting infrastructure, acting as our processors.
- Law enforcement, regulators, or courts where we are compelled by law.
- Our professional advisors (e.g. lawyers, insurers) where necessary.
Your rights. Under the UK GDPR you have the right to request access to your personal data, rectification of inaccurate data, erasure in certain circumstances, restriction of processing, and to object to processing. To exercise any of these, call 01279 961 661 and ask for the Data Protection contact, or write to Reboot Media Group Limited at the registered address above. We will respond within one month.
Complaints. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at https://ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Full privacy policy. For more detail, see our full Privacy Notice at https://ukglimpse.co.uk/privacy-policy/.
7. Callbacks
If we call you back, we will do so during reasonable hours (typically 09:00 to 20:00 UK time) from a number that identifies as UKGlimpse, unless you have asked us to withhold caller ID.
We are not obliged to call you back. We may choose not to respond, in particular where a message is abusive, incoherent, appears to be a wrong number, or falls outside the remit of UKGlimpse.
8. Call costs
The number is a UK non-geographic number. Calls are charged at your telephone provider’s standard rate to that number range; check with your provider for details. Calls from outside the UK may incur international rates.
We do not charge you separately for calling the line or for callbacks we make to you.
9. Prohibited use
You must not:
- Leave threatening, harassing, obscene, or grossly offensive messages.
- Make silent, malicious, or nuisance calls.
- Attempt to impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity in a way likely to cause harm.
- Use the service to leave content that would be unlawful to communicate, including content that infringes another person’s rights.
We reserve the right to block callers who abuse the service and, where appropriate, to report abusive or unlawful use to the police, Ofcom, or other relevant authority.
10. No guarantee of availability
We provide the service on a best-efforts basis. It may be unavailable at times due to maintenance, outages, or reasons outside our control. We do not guarantee any particular level of availability and are not liable for any loss arising from you being unable to reach us via this line. If your matter is urgent, please use another channel — and if it is an emergency, dial 999.
11. Emergencies
This service is not an emergency line. Do not use it to report crimes in progress, fires, medical emergencies, or any situation requiring an urgent response. Dial 999 (or 112) instead. If you are in the UK and need non-emergency police help, dial 101.
For mental health support, contact the Samaritans free on 116 123.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, UKGlimpse, Reboot Media Group Limited (as its parent company), and their officers, employees and contractors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, this service.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under English law.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version will always be available at https://ukglimpse.co.uk/callin-terms . Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date at the top.
14. Governing law
These Terms and any dispute arising out of them are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
15. Contact
Questions about these Terms, or about a message you have left, can be directed to UKGlimpse on 01279 961 661.
For data protection queries, call the same number and ask for the Data Protection contact.
These Terms of Service apply to callers to the UKGlimpse voicemail and callback line only. Use of other Reboot Media Group services is governed by their respective terms.
