FurAffinity Hacked: Furry Art Community Disrupted by Major Security Breach

FurAffinity, a major online community for furry fandom art, was recently hacked in a significant security breach that occurred in August 2024. The hackers managed to compromise the site’s domain registrar and took control of FurAffinity’s Twitter (now X) account, which they used to post inflammatory content and even promote cryptocurrency scams.

The situation became more concerning when the hackers redirected FurAffinity’s main site to various other websites, including Kiwi Farms, which quickly distanced itself from the incident. The attack not only disrupted the FurAffinity platform but also led to a substantial increase in users joining the site’s Discord server as the official communication channel during the outage. This surge in activity forced the administrators to lock down the server temporarily to manage the chaos.

FurAffinity staff have since regained control of their domain and are working on restoring the website. However, the breach has raised significant concerns about the platform’s security, leading to a broader discussion about the safety of user data on niche online communities. This incident marks another chapter in FurAffinity’s tumultuous history, which has included previous security issues and controversies within the furry community. The platform’s administrators are now focused on preventing further disruptions as they bring the site back online.
